A calmer opening shift starts with a better gym checklist
Bring members, staff and daily admin into a repeatable routine, so your team can spend more time on the gym floor.
The first few minutes of a shift set the tone for everything that follows. A short, shared routine can help your team get ready without relying on memory or a stream of messages.
Start with the space
Walk the floor before the first session. Check that entrances are clear, shared equipment is ready to use, and the reception area has what staff need. Report equipment concerns through your normal maintenance process and keep affected equipment out of use until it has been checked.
Give each task a named person. A checklist is more useful when everyone knows who is responsible for completing it.
Give reception a clear handover
Your opening team should be able to answer a few practical questions:
- Which classes or trainer sessions need attention today?
- Are there membership questions waiting for a follow-up?
- Do any member records need updating?
- What did the previous shift leave unfinished?
Keep the handover focused on actions. Avoid sharing member details in places where other visitors can see them.
Make the first check-in easy
Agree on how staff should help a new member, record a visit, and handle an unclear membership status. A consistent check-in process makes a busy entrance easier to manage.
GymNavigo includes member records, membership assignments and QR attendance workflows. Give the relevant team members the access they need for their responsibilities, and keep their account details private.
Close the loop
At the end of the shift, note what is complete and what needs a handover. Review the routine with your team regularly: remove steps that do not help, and add steps when the same issue keeps returning.
Start with one checklist your team can actually follow. A useful routine is one that stays clear on your busiest day.
